Abstract
Purpose: In the study, to assess the accuracy for measuring the refractive power of hydrogel contact lenses by conventional contact lens holder and improved contact lens holder that designed to be mounted more easily and reliably the soft contact lens. The accuracy for each sample was also analyzed with water content and diopter categories. And the change in the refractive power according to elapsed time was examined. Methods: The hydrogel contact lenses used for measurement were classified into three categories in water content (38%, 43%, 58%). Also, three diopter categories of refractive power were used such as -3.000D, -7.000D, -10.000D. The accuracy of measurement results were evaluated by measuring with conventional contact lens holder and improved contact lens holder using an auto lensmeter. Results: In case of conventional contact lens holder method, the average value of refractive power was -3.129 for -3.000D, -7.036D for -7.000D and -10.266D for -10.000D, respectively. In case of improved contact lens holder method, the average value of refractive power was -3.007 for -3.000D, -6.988D for -7.000D and -9.944D for -10.000D, respectively. The accuracy of measurements for all diopters was better in improved contact lens holder method than conventional contact lens holder method. Conclusions: The measurement of refractive power of hydrogel contact lens in improved contact lens holder method showed higher accuracy than conventional contact lens holder method. And also, the diopter and water content were higher, it¡¯s meant to be less accuracy.
